Megan Schmidt, MD
Disclosures: Nothing to disclose - 12/07/2022

Dr. Megan Schmidt completed her neonatology fellowship from Baylor College of Medicine/Texas Children’s Hospital in 2008. That same year, she joined the Pediatrix practice in Fort Worth, Texas.  She helped build the neonatal cardiac team; a multidisciplinary group that focuses on complex congenital heart disease in the Cook Children’s Medical Center NICU. She also lead efforts towards EHR optimization.

In addition, Dr. Schmidt is engaged with the large high-risk delivery hospital NICU at Texas Health Harris Methodist Fort Worth. Here she is the associate medical director and helps lead the unit in quality improvement projects and clinical research.

Her interest in quality improvement work led her to tackle the treatment of neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS). Her execution of an evidence-based holistic approach to treating NAS has resulted in a dramatic decrease in the use of pharmacologic-based therapies for this high-risk group of neonates in Fort Worth.  The focus on a family-centered solution for NAS through eat, sleep, console is something Dr. Schmidt is passionate about.
