Although antenatal corticosteroids are well-known to decrease perinatal morbidity and mortality when administered to pregnant patients with threatened preterm birth, they are given with optimal timing in less than half of cases of early preterm birth. Further, overuse may result in long-term neurodevelopmental risks to the offspring.
