Overview
Retinopathy of Prematurity is the leading cause of childhood blindness worldwide, but with appropriate treatment techniques, sight limiting outcomes can be largely avoided. Current standards for the treatment of ROP in the US and around the world are not standardized, leading to blindness continuing to occur. This presentation presents a model to safely treat and follow ROP infants, obviating blindness due to retinal pathology.

ACCME Objectives
  1. Discuss the current standard of care for the treatment of retinopathy of prematurity.
  2. Identify the safe application of anti–vascular endothelial growth factor (anti-VEGF) medication to the infant with retinopathy of prematurity.
  3. Illustrate the importance of careful and diligent follow up through the completion of retinal vascularization.

ANCC Learning Outcomes
