Overview

This workshop will address simulation methodology and principles to expand one’s existing simulation program or help build a new program. Through this workshop, one will learn how to build a simulation from the ground up and incorporate patient safety strategies into one’s simulation to improve patient outcomes.

ACCME Objectives
  1. Summarize the educational theories supporting the use of Simulation in medical education.
  2. Describe TeamSTEPPS strategies that can be evaluated in simulation.
  3. Discuss which simulator will best fit the needs of their simulation goals and objectives.
  4. Differentiate between traditional simulation and rapid cycle deliberate practice simulation.
  5. Determine what metrics/KPI would be useful to show improvement.
  6. Explain the importance of establishing psychological safety in simulation and debriefing.

ANCC Learning Outcomes
  1. Summarize the educational theories supporting the use of simulation in medical education.
  2. Describe the TeamSTEPPS strategies that can be evaluated in simulation.
  3. Discuss which simulator will best fit the needs of their simulation goals and objectives.
  4. Distinguish between traditional simulation and Rapid-Cycle Deliberate Practice (RCDP) simulation.
  5. Identify the key performance indicators (KPIs) or metrics would be useful to demonstrate improvement.
  6. Explain the importance of establishing psychological safety in simulation and debriefing.
