A quality-of-care gap exists in the current management of retinopathy of prematurity (ROP). This activity will review ways to improve care both now and in the future. At the conclusion of this activity, learners will critically evaluate ROP monitoring options in their NICU unit to determine if any changes are appropriate for the patient population and if so, initiate an evidenced-based intervention in their NICU.

1. Summarize the current standard of care for retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) screening, and the changing epidemiology of ROP worldwide.
2. Describe the strengths and limitations of current imaging technology in ROP.
3. Discuss potential opportunities for improved care using advanced imaging technologies in the future.
